Petronas, short for Petroliam Nasional Berhad, is a Malaysian owned oil and gas company that was founded on August 17, 1974. Wholly owned by the Government, the corporation is vested with the entire oil and gas resources in Malaysia and is entrusted with the responsibility of developing and adding value to these resources. As of the end of March 2005, the Petronas Group comprised 103 wholly owned subsidiaries, 19 partly-owned outfits and 57 associated companies. Petronas built the Petronas Twin Towers (opened 1998), once the world’s tallest buildings, as its headquarters.
In 2004, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, stated that Petronas contributed RM 25 Billion to the country’s treasury accounting for 25 percent of revenue collected via dividends and other revenues.
RM25 billion :-O, 25 billion tu banyak. Sebab tu orang kata minyak semua kaya. Tak percaya, mari kita lihat orang no 3 terkaya di asia tenggara, Ananda Krishnan. Beliau dulu juga orang minyak:
Ananda Krishnan’s first entrepreneurial venture was in oil trading, setting up Exoil Trading, which went on to purchase oil drilling concessions in various countries. Later he moved into gambling (in Malaysia), stud farming (in Australia) and running a Hollywood cartoon studio. Soon, he diversified into a host of other business opportunities. In the early part of the 1990s, he started diversifying, in a big way, into the multimedia arena.
Currently, he has business interests in entertainment (Astro), space(MEASAT) , oil, power, shipping, telecommunications (Maxis, Aircel), property and gaming (Pan Pools Malaysia). His companies operate in a most parts of the South East Asia. A quarter of his wealth comes from the gambling business (lottery, horse-racing wagering). He is also said to be behind the world’s largest indoor Water Park in Tropical Islands,Germany with former Genting Group executive Colin Au.He is also pondering an online lottery venture in Russia.
Said to have an extraordinary entrepreneurial flair and far sighted, it was Ananda who sold former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on the idea of the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s second tallest building, which stake he has now sold off.
Fortune magazine, in a 2001 article, called him “Kuala Lumpur’s Mr Big”.
TAK adalah no 2 terkaya dia SEA, no 1 adalah Robert Kuok yang membawa maksud orang terkaya di SEA juga dari Malaysia. Mereka adalah bangsa Malaysia. Kalau Bangsar Malaysia aku tahu, hampir hari2 aku g situ, Bangsa Malaysia, One Nation, One People, buah fikiran Dr M dalam usaha menyatukan rakyat Malaysia yang pada pada permukaannya nampak tenang. Ironinya, Dr M sendiri disanggah dengan hebat didalam buku 13 May, terutamanya berkenaan Operasi Lalang. Malaysia memang aman dan sejahtera walaupun lebih 50% populasi bangsa Melayu, ekonomi lebih 50% dikuasai bangsa bukan Melayu, Malaysia tetap aman. Namun tak cukup aman, kerana masih ada manusia-manusia yang tamak yang diberi betis nak peha, beri peha nak dada, beri dada nak kepak, amiklah sebakul ko makan sorang, orang seperti Namewee mungkin. Sori ah Namwee, saya sama macam lu, saya gurau sahaja, lu jangan tafsir bukan2 ya, kasi buka kepala la ok? kalau kawan kena ikhlas lah… gurau2 pun ada hadnya kawan.
Atas sebab perniagaan minyak ini membawa untung yang banyak, Petronas mampu untuk membuat iklan-iklan yang menelan kos yang tinggi dan berbaloi macam kat atas tu. TNB dahulu juga begitu, tapi semenjak tak berapa untung nih sebab bayar kat IPP mahal sangat, iklan pun dah tak berapa ada. Kesian.
